Please read this article on the BBC website...

and if, like me, you think that it's wrong, and / or the UK taxpayer footing the bill for the Pope's upcoming visit to the UK is wrong in the light of this or any number of his less than tolerant pronouncements in the last couple of years, then please go here and sign the petition against his visit.

Thanks... Keep calm and carry on.

Your link is broken, but I read it on another channel. I know what you are talking about. I have a great dislike for religion, in general, because of people like that.

I knew you'd fix it fast. But I thought I let you know, just case someone else didn't.

I'd, personally, like to Pope to prove that God actually exists. Then, I might give him the time of day.

£20 million!?

I can never get my head around HOW these events cost so much. I know it's apparantly all down to "security" and things, but 50 security guards, paid £20 an hour, on duty for 24 hours, for a week, only comes to £168,000, even adding a private jet and rooms at a posh hotel I can't work out where the rest goes!

No wonder the country's broke...

He should pay for himself, (an easyjet from Rome's about £50 ;p) especially if he's going to come over here and have a pop at our equality rights!

I really don't think we should foot the bill, and while I don't agree with his comments (and thankfully am not Catholic, no matter what my mother may think...) I can understand where he's coming from. Allowing freedom and equality for all does impinge upon ideologies which do NOT allow for all to be free and equal, and so in a sense is not freedom and equality for all. It's a tricky circular argument where I personally think the only way out is for those outdated ideologies to wake up and smell this particular brand of coffee, but that isn't going to happen, so what do you do for the best?

I generally am not willing to say that the law should dictate to the Catholic Church (or any other religious organisation) with regard to their clergy, but I __do__ think that their secular staff should be protected from discrimination in the workplace.

I do also think that Catholicism does need to wake up and smell the coffee wrt to gay rights, in particular, as frankly non-acceptance of homosexuality is simply not compatible with life in the 21st century. We know that Bonobos are completely bisexual as a species and if you believe that God created every living creature then he/she/it created Bonobos and as such has no problem with homosexuality at all... (I await the inevitable flaming, though not from your good self ;-) )

I love bonobos. Which is handy, as bonobos love EVERYONE.

He's very good at pushing agengers and splitting christians apart who are not hurting anyone else.

I'd have more respect if he put as much zeel into denouncing the rapist in roman cathlic africa countries.

The pedition isn't doing a single thing but at least we can show numbers. WTF is the Pope doing trying to interfere with legislation, anyway?
As you say, secular staff should be subject to secular rules and regulations and the only consideration should be their ability to do their job.
