So at around 1030h this morning someone got stabbed on the street, in broad daylight, 25 metres from the entrance to my office building. This is on a major thoroughfare, mind you, not some backstreet. I didn't see it happen (thank goodness), but I did see the aftermath when I went out to buy a coffee.

I've always told people that London is safe, that I've seen far more troubling violence in small towns than I ever have in London, and the sensible bit of my brain knows that that is still true, but the more basic bit of my brain is trying to make itself heard as it has a little fit of terrified hysteria in the background... There's nothing that focuses the mind on one's own mortality like seeing blood spatters on the pavement.

Still, the Police officers in attendance confirmed that there were no deaths, and that is was an isolated incident, so I'm not __actually__ frightened to be here; it was just a real culture shock.

Out in Reading this evening, and then a weekend of domestic work torture, attending a housewarming and possibly get around to some various photography tasks - we'll have to see how soon the chores are done...
