maleghasty: (Arghhhhhhhhhh!)
So, last night I went to see "V for Vendetta"...

Despite the many surprised, and one might almost say glowing, reviews from this forum I still had my reservations. Here's the deal - I LOVE the original comic. When I heard some of the rumours (some of them from a former colleague who was an extra on some of the London night shoots) I was horrified and worried that the Wachowski brothers had torched one of the most important stories in my life. I've seen it now and the truth is that they may have re-written basic plot in a few places, but for my money they have not only preserved the very essence of the story, they have also understood that spirit and modified the events of story in order to make that spirit shine through a thin but no less skillfully rendered allegory. I take off my hat to them they have confounded my expectations and filled me with hope. As I said to my mother on the phone earlier:

"If two Americans can get this film made without the eye of Sauron the GOP torpedoing their efforts, then I say long live polite dissent, long live American film-makers telling their own truth and long live a new mainstream that is not frightened to treat audiences as intelligent beings instead of corn-fed imbeciles."

Now, considering this:

The Legislative Reform Bill

Who wants to buy some masks and go stand on the street in Westminster before we end up letting our grandkids do it?
